Mash-up of a documentary about the politics, gender dynamics, economics and culturally redemptive power of the traditional Mayan Huipil of Guatemala. The interviews were omitted from this upload due to poor mic quality. What's left is documentation of the ancient art of Mayan weaving as demonstrated by Domitila Curuchich, a master weaver from Guatemala. The footage was taken in 2007 during Domitila's one month residency at VCUarts Anderson Gallery, for the exhibition "Ixchel's Thread: Maya Weavings from the Bowdler Collection." Domitila completed a traditional Guatemalan Huipil during her stay which was subsequently donated to the gallery collection.
