Chartered in 1934, the Animal Defense League is the only true no-kill shelter for abandoned, abused, or neglected dogs and cats. ADL is located on a 12-acre campus which includes a pet park, adoption center, thrift shop, kennels, cattery, education center and veterinary hospital. In 2010, the ADL clinic spayed or neutered more than 7,389 cats and dogs and is currently on pace to sterilize close to 9,000 animals in 2011. ADL also adopted a total of 3,131 animals in 201. Since the ADL does not receive any city, state or federal government funding, private donations fuel the shelter and animal hospital functions.
