"Elegy for Fred," composed for Canadian trumpeter Fred Mills' memorial service, September 20, 2009, Hodgson Hall, Athens, Georgia. Performed by the UGA Alumni Brass ensemble, all of whom learned under Fred at one time or another between 1996 and 2009.
Fred Mills passed away in a car accident September 7, 2009, returning home from the airport after a trip to play and teach in Italy. Fred was an incredibly inspiring teacher, mentor, and friend. None can replace him. He toured the world as a member of the Canadian Brass for 24 years. Just Google his name to learn more about him and see many other videos of him here on YouTube. He inspired an entire generation of brass players, literally all over the world. All that knew him will miss him and his incredibly hilarious stories, his vivacity, and his love of music.
