My IONS are set up fairly similar to that of a real drum set. I now currently use two different types of electronic cymbals. All three Ion cymbals I've had eventually broke. I use all cymbals as often as I can. Sometimes it's hard to tell whether I should hit the pad or the cymbal, but I typically can tell which is which.

when you bought extra cymbals, was the actual cymbal piece all you had to buy? did the existing ion cymbal cables and hardware work for the new cymbal?
