@jgardell But what mannerisms does Vanessa Minnillo display that makes her look Puerto Rican or whatever? And how does one acknowledge his or her foreign roots to be considered a role model? Her father is a white US military serviceman, and therefore she's a US citizen and has spent most of her life in the US. Who knows how long she's stayed in the Philippines, but growing up in the US has had its real impact. It really doesn't matter that she has a Filipino mother.

@jgardell Thank you for explaining that. I didn't know that she had lied about her ethnic background in past interviews. It's just that you used the word pretend so I interpreted your post differently. If you hadn't, I probably would've known exactly what you meant. The thing is that I live in a diverse area near NYC that has a large Puerto Rican community among many others. So when someone says that a person pretends to be this or that, it could also mean that he or she displays certain traits.

@jgardell A number of articles came out after she won and at the start of her affair with Nick Lachey. I think we read the same article (People or Us Magazine?) that pointed out her claim to be of South American origin.

@5H1TH4PP3N5 The fact that she publicly LIES about her heritage shows that her Filipino mother has had a TREMENDOUS impact on her. No one expects her to behave like a Filipino; after all she's American and this was Miss Teen USA. But to blatantly declare in interviews that she's something she's not more than ruins her credibility as a role model for anyone.
