@gurubhai01 - That is what I normally do. I don't remember now why I put the olive oil. Normally I put the bacon like you said and cook the onion and tomates in the bacon fat itself.

actually one can omit the olive oil procedure by getting the bacon in there first and cook it so its grease comes out... then u sweat the onions in that and throw in the tomatoes after....
