This is the first in a series of posts where we read and discuss Walden Pond cover to cover. In this post we read the beginning passages of Walden Pond in order to get introduced and acquainted with certain foundational themes of the text, various oscillating tones of the speaker, and a rudimentary exegesis of the meanings behind and within the text "on the page." It's a great post (imho) and I had a BLAST doing it! I am looking forward to more posts to come! PLEASE POST ANY COMMENTS, QUESTIONS, IDEAS, ETC. YOU MAY HAVE AT MY BLOG AT: http://thejoyofliterature.blogspot.com/2010/12/walden-pond-1-chapter-1-econom.... Thank you! :D

My son is 4. Currently I am reading to him from the Illustrated Classics series, in addition to Thoreau's essay from Walden entitled "Reading". While public school kids are required to memorize The Preamble to the constitution or Lincoln's Gettysburg address, I want my son to memorize passages from Thoreau, Emerson, Shakespeare,Cooper, etc.

@reptilia5 thank you reptilia. That's wonderful to hear. How is your child/student if I may ask?
I am so sorry that I haven't been able to post any for so long. I am back in school, plus working, & the time is just rather taken up after daily life and all that. But maybe I'll be able to get some more up soon enough. We are fast approaching fall (can you believe it!?!?) and that is always a wonderful time to be reading Thoreau. I may even jump to a different chapter fitting for fall then ;)
