This appears on the independently released Nazz CD "13th and Pine" Direct from Stewkey's master tapes. I've always loved this song and to hear it instrumentally was a real treat. The Piano chords are beautiful, and I always loved that out of tune piano sound, A signature Nazz sound! I believe Stewkey played the piano part. I've only uploaded the piano section becuase the rest of the song is too large to fit.

  • Thanks for sharing ..It is a beautiful composition. Loved the Nazz since 1968

  • Actually that's an upright piano..that gives it that out of tune sound. .I used to have an upright and it sounded just like this. big difference from a grand piano.

  • I love the slightly-out-of-tune upright piano sound. And the major 7th chords and triplets are classic Rundgren. Thank you, mojorisen74!

  • @maida1982a This is Todd Rundgren we're talking about, one of the best and most talented musicians of all time. Besides, Todd was just as good after Something/Anything as during and before (a.k.a. a Wizard, a True Star, Todd, Initiation, Faithful, and Hermit of Mink Hollow not to mention his music with the band Utopia).

  • What a nice find! Thanks for posting this...

  • Totally up Todd Rundgren's alley! One of my all-time favorite piano solos.

  • Lovely

  • This is amazing!! So cool! His compositions during this period are simply amazing, and yes that HAS to be Todd on the piano. Can't imagine Stewkey playing that, esp. since Todd composed. "A Beautiful Song" without the vocals...OMG. thanks for posting this!

  • That's Todd playing piano as I remember the interview he gave Trouser Press back in '78, in which he stated Stewkey played keys only on the first Nazz album, and from then on, TR played the ivories, much to Stewkey's chagrin. Said Stewkey in the piece, "I never thought I was supposed to be a virtuoso."

  • I missed the word 'know' out. Got too excited typing. :D
