Well, you need a permit to protest in NYC to protest first of all. These people most likely didn't have one. So therefor, they are actually part of a riot, not a peaceful protest. Also, it is illegal to block sidewalks, roadways etc... So the cops use necessary force to remove the individuals causing a problem. When you resist police force, they use more force. Any law abiding citizen should know this.
