My test drive of the ETC ION. The rep that demo'd the console to us left it with us for a few weeks to check out. So I just had to do a light show with it.

Rig:
4x Intellabeam 700HX
2x Roboscan Pro 518
4x Dataflash AF1000
2x Diversitronics S4 Strobe Cap in S4 reflector/yoke assembly
2x I-Cue in 26 degree S4 with Smart Move DMX rotator
4x 50 degree S4 with Smart Move DMX rotators
4x S4 PAR NSP with Smart Color 7.5 scrollers

Timing is better than it was before now, I fixed the audio sync issue.

Timing is all follow timing, and it's not perfect, but it's close enough. The show was programmed during finals block, so I didn't have all the time in the world to make it perfect.

Overall, I like the show a lot. The effects section of the ION and the focus palettes really helped things move very quickly. After I figured out the quirks of the console, I was programming pretty quickly. Not as quickly as I can program Obsession, but pretty good for only a few days on the console.

  • what desk did u use to program this ??

  • @02392bretthaley See first line of the description. ETC ION.

  • yea looks good - suprised it was programed using a ion

personaly i think it is too effect based - it is notisable

also why did you have to sync it all with time code - could part of it be busked

  • @Timmy61317 This was really just a test drive of the ION for me, I did not have long to program it because I programmed it during the final exam period so I had lots of studying to do. I also think it's too effect based, but it's what I was able to do with the time I had. As for the busking, I love busking, but I also like a repeatable show like this - for live I'd never have everything timed out like this. Also, quite honestly, the ION is not that great for busking - even with a fader wing.

  • You say you did all the timing manually. Does this mean there is no MIDI sync between the audio source and the ION console? I haven't looked into timing yet on our ION, but I often use MTC sync on the express and it has worked well.

  • I mainly did this as a programming exercise, so getting the audio dead on for live playback was not critical; I was able to line the audio track up perfectly in the video editing software. The timing was done with follow cues on the ION, so it was not "manual" - everything executed itself after I pressed the initial go, so all of the times were recorded in to the console. When doing live light shows I will generally at least start the show with MTC via the MIDI port on the ION.

  • Very nice! How many cues did you have for this?

  • You could tour strip clubs with this rig/show.

  • I plan on doing a show like this after my academic exams - using only 2 martin mac 250s, a couple of led parcans and a projector facing the audience as a strobe- programmed on this bit. ly/ mTFIja

  • The theatre I work in uses an Ion. Our show is programed, and using SMPTE from an Alesis, it runs itself.

  • Nice job with the "Red light, yellow light, green light go"

  • veri good
