@bmadden5710 Thank you, I am glad someone finally said something. Joe has always been a stand up kind of guy, putting everything before himself. He dedicated 61 years of his life to better Penn State and the students that went there. If there ever was a flaw to this man, it was that he was too trusting. He trusted that the head of University Police, Gary Shultz, would do the right thing by looking into it.

@murdaman702 Its not an excuse, it's how the law works. The police CANNOT conduct an investigation off of hearsay. If Paterno went to the police station, they would have told him to have the witness, Mcqueary, come in. And besides, the head of the police department knew about it from Mcqueary, but chose not to investigate. That is why Shultz was charged with perjury and failure to report, not Joe.

@murdaman702 There is most certainly such a thing, it is to prevent cops from going on wild goose chases. It has to be reported by the witness or victim. Even so, in this case, the witness, Mcqueary, reported it to Shultz, who oversees the University Police. What would you have expected Joe to do when the one who witness reported it?
