As the global economic crisis drags on, residents in Buenos Aires learn to barter. CNN's Brian Byrnes reports.

Think about this: what better way to deal with financial uncertainties than to create a barter system between neighbors, friends, etc.

  • Start locally with small shops, farmers, ranchers, etc. I have friends in Missouri who get eggs and pay for them with cookies. A chiropractor I know does this also (treatment in exchange for handyman work or mechanic or hair salon). If you don't personally know someone, you could post a message on Craigslist. I see many who are willing to exchange their skills/labor/product for equivalent skills/etc. The only problem with an official barter club is bartering is taxable (sales and income).

  • bartering is an exceptional idea...one that has been aound for a very long time. It's too bad more people aren't so inclined to participate.

  • does anybody think this can happen here in the states? How would someone go about to make something like this happen?
