I remember that whole road trip and that perfect show. It was a great year...didn't we tie USC 15-all that game? Many thanks for posting this and others from '74. Didn't think I'd ever see this stuff again! Scott D, 1974 Cal Band Trombone

Wow, their formations and visuals were REALLY good :)

This was towards the end of my sophomore year at Cal and 2nd in the Cal Band. The band had just gone co-ed one year earlier and there had been fears that women in the band would degrade the performance quality.
This show proved all the fearful wrong. Great charting and interesting music. I kind of felt, while down on the field, that we lost people during "Eres Tu" because it's so slow. But maybe not. :)

That was incredible. The formations were amazing. I wish there was a higher quality version of this video.

cal band: bad asses since 1974. (probably way older than that actually)

this show was WONDERFUL....every band should strive for quality like that

I can tell this was a great show! Shame the sound and picture aren't better, but that's to be expected. Still awesome! :D
Its so cool how the Cal band today still wears the traditional outfits from these days. Its unique and AWESOME

It's one of my favorite things as well. The Cal Band went to this basic style of uniform in the 1950s and they are based on the old "Big 10" look of the Ohio State and Michigan Marching Bands.

Great to see one of the old shows. Excellent color flash, and the diagonals really pop like crazy. The Cal Band is bigger these days, but the smaller band from the 70's was really tight. Thanks for posting this one. Got any more?

Thanks ken1w. Before I graduated, I made video copies of all the field shows I performed in. I had extra space on the VHS tape, so I threw this one on. Unfortunately, I don't have anything else from that era.

Wow! We still have that same arrangement of Everybody's Everything in the packet, too!

Cool arrangements never die. They just keep getting played over and over.
