  • this is the later version of the spitfire as used in the cold war with the wingtips cut off great vid 5*

  • I call BULLSHIT!!!!!

  • @Supduplemup That P-51 pilot must have been drunk to!!!

  • Is this an early model of spitfire? more square than elliptical wings. They were both amazing aircraft

  • Spitfire.

  • @ToshitsuguTakamatsu this looks like IL2

  • @lesterclaypool1 The P51 D (which entered service in 1944 ) was designed for medium altitude work and only came in one configuration and had it's peak power at 19K rated at 1712 Bhp from 12 K up to 23 K it was faster than all spitfires in that range . as far as climb rates The Mk XII and XIV spitfires rate of 5000ftpm with wep , the Mk IX LFe has climb rate of 4500ftpm and IX LHe 4000ftp with wep . P51 on the other hand is 3200ftpm with wep

  • The spitfire isn't my favourite aircraft by any means but a few myths needed to be dispelled . Unlike the mustang spit fires came in many different versions even of the mark. Example the MK IX LFe was a low alt spitfire that had a 22lb boost rating at 12K and power would prop off from 1634 bhp above 10K where as the Mk IX LHe had a merlin 70 with 23lb boost set at 24K giving it's best power of 1800bhp at 33K and top speed of 460 moh at 30K and a service celling of 44K

  • @lesterclaypool1 The P51 will compress at speeds over 490mph the spit with clipped wings will have control at speeds over 510mph (though you had to be careful not to over stress the airframe). As for strength . yes the spitfire was fragile but so were the wings on a P51 . Due to them being lamina flow any damage to the surface dramatically reduces your lift and roll . deformation of the wing could also induce high speed stalls .

  • @lesterclaypool1 It took so many burst as most of the shots missed. The mustang MK Ia as used by the RAF first saw service in September 1941 and scored it's first kills over Depie . The spit IX LFe (which we se in this video had a 2000fpm higher climb rate than the P51 due to the P51 having lamuna flow wings that give very low lift . in a dive they only thing that held the spit back was lack of aileron control this was cured by clipping teh wing tips (as in this film) .
