This video shows the full moult of a Cherax destructor crayfish. It flipped onto its side as I started filming. The video quality isn't what I hoped as even with an excellent camera (Sony HDR TG1), focusing through the less-than-spotless glass of the aquarium was difficult. If you have ever watched your crayfish moult, you know that it is pretty intense to watch. I have seen many crayfish moult before, yet I never cease to get worried when I see limbs going in all directions and what not.

The crayfish moulted in the open with the light on of its own accord. I did not set this up, I was simply lucky to have my camera nearby. I was also observant over the last few days and saw the tell tale signs of an impending moult. Please don't try to watch your crayfish moult if they want to do it when they are hidden as you will cause them a great deal of stress, something they don't need any more of when they are moulting.

  • how often will a cherax destructor moult? also mine has a very very dark blue shell is this a sign of pending moult?

  • my yabbies are pregnant wat should i do?

  • @123codfan I use a floating guppy breeder. I watch the crayfish carefully so that I can time the moult and gently put it in the breeding cage just long enough for it to moult and harden. That way, you don't need an extra tank.

  • @Maelglon i dont really have anywhere to put mine i put it in a container is that alright?

  • @123codfan Be careful moving crayfish that have just molted. That's the type of thing that can kill them. You need to protect them and give them as least-stressful of an en environment as possible.

  • @something605 feed them carrots or meat if u really have too if and a tip separate the yabbie from the partners after molting or it might get killed like mine did

  • what are the signs because i got one thats only young and i dont know what he is doing. please respond. Also he trys to catch fish but always fails i am worried because he wont eat his food. Please help.

  • @M0TARDmx I've never known them as "fighting" yabbies, but they are usually called Yabbies, yes.

  • Are the cherax destructors fighting yabbies?
