Demonstration and description of the very useful Siberian Hitch knot. I'd have to say this is the knot I tie the most. Mainly because I use it to put up my tarp and any other guy-lines.
I would like to do this one again and make all of the steps more visible.

  • Cleat as mud! Try doing it as an example between two sticks on a desk or, a couple of chair legs, without leaving your hand/s between the knot and the camera!

  • @mrbluenun Sorry you couldn't make it out. I generally try to show the things I use on location so the setup may not be perfect. For instance, in that shot the camera was tied to a near by tree. I try to work with what I have for authenticity. I have started bringing a camera stand so hopefully some of the angles will improve. I'm enjoying shooting the videos but learning as I go.

  • What do you do on the other end of the tarp?

  • I have a Taught Line Hitch (aka Rolling Hitch) pre-tied to all of my tarps corners, sides and middle. I plan on releasing a video that shows how to tie the Taught Line Hitch as it's one of the more common knots I use on a daily basis when I'm out there.

  • I teach this for a living. You released tension when you slide it to the tree. Try using a slipped overhand knot. Quicker, easier, remains taut, and still releases the same way.

  • @MaximusArurealius Thanks, I'll give that a try.

I don't mind losing tension though because when I hang the tarp, I generally tie it up loose then tighten it up with rolling hitches that I have on each of the tarp loops. I find that doing it this way allows you to fine tune it nicely when it's done.

  • I start with a siberian hitch (or evenk) then tension up the taughtline at the opposite end with a power cinch tied off with two slip hitches. I tension the suspended tarp with prussiks and peg out with taughtline hitches. Nice demo of the siberian hitch

  • I liked it too, thanks very much for uploading bro!

  • I liked the video. The "naysayers" have nothing better to do.

  • @DishrackDarwin

so when max specifically says on page two of this forum "i teach this for a living," he is lying?

you are specifically calling max a liar, that is funny

  • @MaximusArurealius

    hey knot teacher

  • What kind of rope do you use?

  • @MaddyTheGoose

Hello and thank you for the note. I hope you realised I was not being rude in my remarks? I really was just trying to be helpful.

I fully understand the difficulties that shooting outside can bring wind, rain, snow, hail etc......... LOL!, Will look out for you in the future.

I thank you once again for your post, OK?

    Take care, mrbluenun.

  • thank you for slowing it down to a beginners level! All the other videos go so fast or cover the action that I cannot get it. Do you know how to make a knot for tension? That would really help me?
