My first video, it's a bit slow and boring. But was a good test.

On an engine with hydraulically adjusted valve clearance, the rocker cover gasket may never get changed in routine maintenance.

The gasket on this car hasn't been changed for 120,000km's and was leaking quite badly.

New gasket = cleaner engine bay :)

  • @nigeya69007 No worries mate. It's an easy job if you've got the tools, well worth the savings!

Lol, not sure I'll team up with anyone. I originally didn't want to show any branding. But then people just ask what they are and I may as well have just left it in :) .

I've got a few more plans for videos but I'm also open to suggestions in the channel page.

Thanks for the kind words :)

  • are these common in the z20let to go as mine has 41k on the clock and i can only assume its the rocker cover thats gone as i seem to have oil just below or on the lip of the cover how long do you have to wait for the sealent to go off thanks

  • @nigeya69007 As far as I know, it's pretty common. Mine was really bad before renewing it and now it hasn't leaked since. So I'm really happy that I changed it.

Regarding the sealant, it depends what you use. The silicone based sealant I like to use sets in about 15 minutes but it takes up to 24 hours to go off. But then again you don't have to use the sealant if you don't want to.

    Cheers.

  • Very Nice ! =)

  • Hows the gasket holding up Chris? Doing mine today. Except sparkplug ports are abut 3" deep in oil.... Messy lol

  • HOLY SHIT YOUR QUICK!

  • I think your an English engeneer and you making very very nice job!!!!

  • amazing video, will definitely give this a try. Btw how long should you wait for the gasket seal to seal? lol

  • Interesting video, definitely avoid the main dealerships whenever possible. They ruined it for themselves with inflated prices and poor quality work - that was my experience with the Lookers franchise. I always wondered why they put the pipe over the top of the engine! A lot of people fit the 2.2petrol air filter housing and the exit is from the front, meaning a shorter pipe to the turbo that isn't heated! The nut tightening sequence is quite important, so glad you showed it.

  • thanks for the vid mate, really clear and well-done

  • great video ,,i need to replace the rocker cover gasket on my astra 1.7dti, and was wondering did you have to get the ecu reset or any thing else with the ecu before you could take the rocker cover off,, cheers geoff

  • was panicking that my VXR had packed it in when i saw this oil leak same as you described. thankfully this looks like the fix. thanks from australia mate.
