Look, I know that being gay can be hard a times. It totally sucks getting picked on in school, being disowned and told that you're going to burn in hell.
I think the "it gets better" project is great - I participated in it and I think it's a great thing for our community.
But at the same time, I don't like how we sometimes make being gay seem like this awful curse. Like you have to hang in there on a hope and prayer.
As a full blown homosexual, I have to say... I think being gay is pretty freaking amazing.
In fact, I'd tell straight people... you should be so lucky as to have even the slightest bi curious inclination.
I love being gay.
For one, you can always fit into small parking spots with your Mini Cooper.
You don't have to deal with bloody tampons.
And when you go to the gym, you get to change next to the people you're attracted to. Can you imagine if they let straight guys into the women's locker room? I live that every day!
I guess it's one of those glass half empty, half full kinda deals. Sure, gay people do have to put up with a lot of crap. Like being called a f*ggot, not having equal rights and sometimes hiding their relationships from the people around them.
But, on the flip side.... every year, they throw a huge colorful parade for us! Doesn't that count for something? No, it doesn't?
What about swordfights? Eh?! Or, if you have a threesome, you're always attracted to both parties involved.
Last but definitely not least least... I love that I'm gay because it has built my character. It's made me a million times stronger than I'd otherwise be. It's inspired in me a passion for equality. And I'm so proud to be part of a community as colorful, diverse and resilient as ours.
So yes, it might get even better. But the thing is, today is pretty freaking amazing, too.
