http://www.pbs.org/independentlens/scenes-from-a-parish/ When a young, irreverent priest arrives at Saint Patrick Parish in Lawrence, Massachusetts, he discovers the unexpected—boiling ethnic tensions in a changing working-class community. Filmed over four years, follow the wildly diverse personal stories of Father Paul O'Brien and his unruly flock, as they struggle to hold onto faith in the face of desperate circumstances.
SCENES FROM A PARISH premieres Tuesday, December 29 on Independent Lens, a weekly series airing on PBS. Hosted by Maggie Gyllenhaal, the acclaimed series showcases powerful and innovative independent films. Presented by ITVS, Independent Lens is broadcast on PBS stations nationwide. • I saw this yesterday during a commercial break on PBS. I'm awe-struck because the parish mentioned is the one I attend and I had no idea that Father Paul oversaw pressure to be monocultural. Lawrence is a diverse town with little to no incidence involving cultural clashes. I see that it's quite the contrary. Hopefully I could better understand the underlying behavior of my community by watching this video.
