the song was written by the almost unknowed uk songriter leslie duncan, and was covered by several artists among the others elton john wich included the song in his 70s Lp tumbleweed connection
Oh, sorry about that, Mike. I misunderstood. I thought that the studio version was the version you were looking for. (About this particular telecast, yes, it's a later one, from 1977, and taped in England.) I don't think I've seen the version you remember - maybe it was one she did on TV during a Boston Pops Orchestra special?
@Carambabambasamba Actually, the version to which you refer is, in fact, the studio version (the rock version) from the 1972 Norma Deloris Egstrom album (on Capitol) which was her big hit. I've been trying to find the televised live version with the same musicians and the same arrangement. That's the one that really rocks! The drummer kicks serious butt on that one. Not sure why they re-arranged this version and took all the fire out of it, although Miss Lee's performance is still top notch..
Hey, did you find it? The version that you are looking for is in a Peggy Lee CD titled "I'm a Woman / Norma Deloris Egstrom ..." released by the record label EMI.
I've been looking for a performance of this song by Peggy Lee also. This is a different version than the one I was seeking but still a pleasure to see. Not sure of the date of this particular telecast but the performance I've been looking for is from either late 1972 or 73. This song was a hit for her in 1972 and, at that time, she was still performing it with the original arrangement with a much harder rocking rhythm section. Even the drummer was the same. That's the version I'm trying to find.
Damn....I wanna see this whole show!!! Love Peggy's version of LOVE SONG, it is so suited to her voice........she looks great here!!!! LOVE LOVE LOVE her......

Miss Lee must have just had an eye job as she sports the well-known "surprised look"!
