My Grade Eleven Physics problem was to build a machine that would harness wind power. This machine has to lift at least 50 grams 75 Centimeters in height. It was to be made from materials that you find around the home. I used an old bicycle wheel, two liter pop bottles, parts of an old lawn chair, an old Golf Club together with wire, screws, nuts and bolts and some wood. IIPBIW - is the name of my creation - translation - "It Isn't Pretty But It Works". The IIPBIW has lifted not only 50 grams but also 4 Kilograms - that is 4000 grams!
Addendum - Transportation to school shifted the mechanism slightly. As well, using the fan that the teacher had, less air flowing which turned the Windmill slower providing less power for the drive. The lift at school was 2 kg (2000 grams) - half of the home lift. Conclusion - the wind power at school is the important difference. The Windmill's blades also would have been better if made out of sturdy cardboard.
