Ha! Good point! I loved Captain Kangaroo so much. I wonder why we love this story so much.

I saw this story for the first time on Captain Kangaroo. Around 1960. Never forgot it and wondered how it could have been shown on tv during the 'communist' scare of that time.
The sharing of wealth is not popular now.

good memories- My grandmother used to read this to me- many decades ago. Thanks for sharing.

Thanks for the explanation. I'm sorry that I assumed that you edited. I always loved this book so much. I would tell the story to my children, and had memorized the ingredients of the soup LOL. :)

I have the original book by Ann McGovern...you left out the two fat chickens. Why the editing?

@ItsMeItsOlive, You have a good eye for detail! There have been 5 releases of the McGovern book since 1999, and I think somewhere along the line, the chickens may have been edited out for younger generations. Of course, this has happened many times with other tales as well. I would never personally censor a book, but apparently, the version I had was a later, edited version. I apologize I could not get a an older version. I could be wrong, but I think the bones replaced the chickens.
