Watchmaker Ulysse Nardin (1823-1876) founded his company in 1846. Sixteen years later, at the London International Exhibition, Nardin received the Prize Medal (the highest honor) in the category of "complicated watches, pocket chronometers." This award placed the watchmaker in the lead among pocket chronometer makers; his company continued to win many awards, even after the senior Nardin died and his son Paul-David, took over.
