Why oh why don´t they make a really fun toy like this so that you can controle the drive "bands" (English word for it?) seperately??
It is really lame, I would have bought this one instantly for my son if it could have reversed without turning.
How hard can it be?
Not at all, they probably do this just to be able to release a full function version later..

No, he doesn't transform. The instructions say not to move the head or hands manually because you might break the mechanism inside.

oh you can drive him (forward, or spin in place to change direction). There's several songs and voice demos with motion, and you can program a sequence of button commands and then play them back (stored in the remote, i think it is lost when the remote is turned off).

this was from Toys r Us for $29, you can probably find it on Amazon too (search for 'U Control') but at a higher price
