Windows 7 runs fine with 1gb ram. If you dont have this in 2011 I pity you.

people are still using windows xp in 2011 I use xp on my laptop and 7 on my desktop

Wow... I've had XP all the way from when it came out until early 2011. April 2011: got Windows 7 Ultimate 64-Bit, and it's by far the best OS I've ever used!

Windows 2000 was supported until July 13, 2010. It is still supported for crucial security updates (no stability updates, those have all been worked out) and many third parties like Mozilla and Opera still release software for it.
Windows 2000 > Windows 98 > Windows 7 > Windows XP
Support for Windows 98 started to go down the drain after 2009. Now you have to use KernelEx to get certain programs working.
