Wrong. He wasn't given permission to leave the pitch so that makes him an active player. RvN was not offside.

westub is right , if the player isn't on the pitch he isn't in the game and he isn't disturbing any players ,so that was an offside

if the referee hasn't given the player permission to leave the field (as has happened here) then he is still deemed in play so RvN is NOT offside. i repeat, NOT OFFSDE
