the reason why the africans ( africa was named after a white general "africanus") were brought to puerto rico was because the indigenous (tainos) were basically wiped out...i know many of puerto ricans that acknowledge their african blood...i know a lot of africans that respect the fossil LUCY = evolution... on the flip side, dominicans seem to be in denial about their black ancestors...

I would like to add that when the first shipments of slaves were brought here the slave master learned to take the children away from the parents so the parents couldn`t teach them our original language and worship their original spirituality. They would sell the kids to slave masters who lived in other states far away and that child would never see their parents ever again.

@saddat1965 : If you meant someone who is of Taino lineage, then yes you make a valid point. However, those people have been absorbed within either black or white outsiders who have since the 1400's have mixed in (not in every case but in most) to what we have today. However, I have seen a decent amount of Puerto Ricans who one cannot in anyway deny they're from a European lineage or the other extreme, where they're as black as it can get.
