@GabeMacDonnell ahh i see, i apologize sir. I am talking about the last 4 to 6 frets which is what i have done and have had done, i apologize we misinterperated each other. i only scallop the last few because it makes it easier for solos and bends and such. sorry to get off on the wrong foot eh? check out my two new guitars, i have videos of them (: cheers subscribe if you want

@numstuck Apparently the first jobs on Blackmore and Malmsteems guitars were not shining examples of luthiery. I'm not saying this is the best method to scallop a neck, but anyone with some patience, common sense, and a few hand tools could scallop a neck if they wanted. Wouldn't try it 1st time out on a nice guitar, especially if you're not good with woodworking, but it's not a difficult job, just time consuming. Replacing a scalloped brace on an acoustic: see your repairman!

@Jacksonguitars1231 Wow, what credentials! Color me impressed. DC Customs is considered one of the best at scallops in the country; they charge $180-225, not including a setup. Each fret takes about 10 minutes minimum, multiply that by the hourly cost and figure it out.

@GabeMacDonnell your an idiot it wouldnt cost that much. 1, because im going to school to become a luither at Mi so get over yourself, yes its a simple thing to do which is why it wouldnt cost 200 dollars. maybe 100. i had my custom jackson rr24 done, 80 bucks. and for 2, my grandfather is a luither and any good one wont overcharge you like a 'decent' shop. my frets are perfect because i got it done good, do you see how shitty and not flush his look...

@GabeMacDonnell im pretty sure they didnt use this technique to scallop dude

@numstuck You're right! McLaughlin, Blackmore, Malmsteem and Montfort are just dummies. Vai too, but only 1/8th, since he only has 4 scalloped frets. (Sarcasm, of course.)

@Jacksonguitars1231 If you find a guy who'll do it for $50 you'd better run! Most decent shops charge between $175 and $200 for the scallop, not including a setup. I've been a guitarist and guitar tech for longer than I care to remember, and honestly, if you have some decent woodworking skills, it's not a hard thing to do. Just take your time, and don't make your first attempt on your favorite, or most expensive guitar!

If you want scalloped frets don't do it yourself, pay 50 bucks and have a luither professionally do it...
