Go to the search bar, type US Anthem 91 NHL ASG Chicago.
It was because the Anthem was being performed a little bit after we landed in Saudi Arabia in preparation for the liberation of Kuwait in the first Gulf War. Attitudes were split across the country, and i remember news stories including some people in California and NY burning US flags, saying we shouldn't intervene.
And a display of the people of Chicago CHEERING the national anthem is not disrespectful at all.

@ampipebulldog Dude it's a Chicago thing & in no way are we disrespecting the Anthem, we are cheering our love for this Great country & our sports team. It started with the Champion Blackhawks b4 my time & has carried on thru-out the years. Sorry u feel that way but u got it all wrong...Go Bears

can somebody explain why the crowd is cheering during this? I have been to hundreds of sporting events, and never, ever once did the crowd disrespect the National Anthem.
I just had to find this and watch it because the local sports radio station is going nuts over this and how horrible Chicago fans are.

@ampipebulldog it's something that is done at Chicago Blackhawks home games. Google that a bit to read about it.. if you had watched the NHL finals last year you probably would have heard about it. Many here think the display is the opposite of what you said in your 2nd paragraph.
