EmWilly- rental cars are notoriously the cheapest model of any car available, for obvious reasons (cost, abuse). Don't judge the Caliber by the rental SE with manual windows. I've had my SXT (yes, I'd love an SRT4, but I need the full warranty and better gas mileage) for two years, and it's an all-around great car.

A friend of mine recently had a Caliber as a rental and we were not at all impressed. Someone ran into her 1988 Acura Legend so it was in the shop getting fixed, but driving that Caliber around she was dying to get her 22-year-old car back. Pretty sad.
