  • @05u16hep CF stuff when broken apart do not make ballistic penetrative shards, as other metal based materials do, they are so light they lose energy and are unable to penetrate anything, thats why it is used in F1/WRC racecars

  • @legox50 Trust me GE engines are not 3 spool!! All their engines have always been 2 shaft, same as RR has always been 3 shaft. look at their animations and stuff. and they would put 2 shaft as it is lighter and less maintainance cost. RR used 3 shaft to increase efficiency among other reasons. I do think the carbon fibre fan blades look amazing though!

  • @05u16hep

-I'm not very sure about static electricity build up.

-The GE engines already has 3 rotor shafts... why would they put less?

-Your right about RR making the wide chords, GE just improved them.

-Carbom fiber blades do not snap, they bend. Either that, or they develop tiny cracks that are held together by the carbon fibers in the blade, which cannot break that easily

    -Your 100% correct about both companies's pro's and con's

  • @legox50 Carbon fibre fan blades = prone to static electricity buildup + rapid discharge, prone to 'snaping' and releasing shards into the engine in a bird strike rather than just bending.

RR are 3 shaft making much more efficient and less prone to stall.

RR were fisrt to bring out wide chord fan blades or 'big' ones as you put.

Both companies are leading edge, both have advantages, both have disadvantages

  • WOOT!!!! I LOVE THIS COMPANY!!!!!

Comparison between Rolls-Royce and GE engines

    Rolls-Royce: Titanium fan blade=heavy

GE: Carbon fiber=200+ lighter and less fan blades; bigger fan blades; lower RPM making it more quiet; etc. (Too many pros to say)
