They never had Chevy Chase as a drummer in the actual band Steely Dan, as in he does not play drums on any of their songs.
Chase played with the founders of Steely Dan in campus bands at college. Chevy Chase and Donald Fagen/Walter Becker (founders of Steely Dan) went to Bard College together in the late 1960s.
