Joan Baez ~ WHERE`S MY APPLE PIE ~

As I have grown older I realized things are never just black and white. The older I`ve grown, the more I tended to see things in shades of gray. This song was most relevant during and just after the Vietnam war, but as I now speak, it is 2009, and I realize that we do indeed have enemies that want to destroy America and all that she stands for, or maybe because perhaps we are the envy of the world, and , too, although we are the richest country in the world, Americans are also the most generous people in the world, and our enemies just don`t like that. Our father`s fathers and our mother`s mothers have toiled themselves to the bone to make this country what it was in the history books, the land of the free and the brave. We are also the envy of the world because we are a Democracy and I believe we must fight to the death if we have to against a radical faction of a religion that wants to destroy us because we support freedom in other parts of the world . A radical faction has finally come to destroy us because they don`t like freedom. We must stand up against our enemies, and let us stop them before they stop us. I am proud of our Democracy and I am proud of the brave American men and women who are making the ultimate sacrifice to keep America free. I don`t know what Joan`s position is on the war against modern terrorism, but we must fight and die if we have to for our freedom. The Vietnam war was tragic and our troops who came home tired and weary were spat upon. 58,000 American boys died in vain in Vietnam and the thought of it will always be heart-wrenching and sometimes a huge source of never-ending sadness, and it was a horror to watch those that did survive come back home only to be treated as losers. I think this is what this song is all about, "Where`s My Apple Pie". If Joan`s philosophy is still "nonviolence" about how America deals with our enemies, then I part with her on that front.

  • how awful your opinion

and again: voilence is not the right answer to voilence

    it just ends in disaster

burn your gun and arm up with love

  • The 60s are over so set me free.

  • voilence is never the answer to anything

just an helpless attempt of those who have no arguments but weapons

  • So 9/11 mean`t nothing to you? Should we wait for another one, and another one before we pick up a gun?

  • @Scout4Me1

Why do you think we were attacked on 9/11? Its because of our own nation's militarism abroad that has pissed off the world. So long as we continue to fight unnecessary aggressive wars abroad, we will never be safe and 911s will continue to threaten us. Its the gun that brought 911 not passivity.

  • @Ermal8711 Perhaps we were attacked on 9/11 because we support Israel. Now that`s a thought isn`t it?

  • Why did you even post that song then Scout4Me? You must know about America's terrorism against other countries. You can change that. We change ourselves , not our enemies.

Peace and love is all that this song about. Go watch Joan singing this two days ago , changing the lyrics to " Time to Occupy" . Joan Baez is still around fighting for freedom. We don't need violence , my friend ! Don't let fear drive you mad.

( Sorry for my poor English )

  • the chorus is the tune of Auld Land Syne. Hooray for the folk process

  • @Scout4Me1 I think our unquestioned support of Israel is a moral and political dilemma, and furthermore it is one of the reasons but certainly not an isolated reason. American foreign policy in general is the reason. It is a foreign policy that has single handedly given birth to radical Islam when it suited it (during the Soviet-Afghan conflict) and then suffered the back draft of it afterward. America has supported right wing governments abroad and it has pissed off the world while doing so.

  • @Scout4Me1,

the mistreatment of the troops coming home from the Bush&Dick made up Middle East debacles has been and continues to be significantly less than stellar. In lots of cases their mistreatment only came to light when concerned parents videoed the vile living conditions at Walter Reed where their sons & daughters were being abused. With the airing of this unbelievable government abuse changes were made. It's been a while, government improvements tend to wane without continued attention.

  • @Excalion88,

the BigMusic moguls are only interested in the crotch grabbing, boneheaded, 'put your hands in the air, wave 'em like you just don't care' silly kids that bombard the air waves these days. Joan Baez brings a whole lot of counter thoughts to the Republican BigBank, BigBusiness, BigMilitary, BigEntertainment, BigPress, Big Government anti American way of thinking. In the Republican approach, you're either one of them or you're the enemy. So a song like this gets seen only by accident

  • Joan Baez,

I've posted 151 of my original songs at my YouTube site (BertGriffin88). If you get a chance take a listen to my songs 'When's That Someday (We Need That Someday, Today)', 'Bullet Hole', 'They Took His Life Away (66 Days)', 'Please Don't Take My Last Dollar From Me Please', 'They're Burning The Gulf of Mexico'. Who knows you might fight some songs of interest?

Your song 'Where's My Apple Pie?' comes at a time when it's clear you get no pie if you're in the bottom 99%. Keep singing.

  • I cried like a bitch on the last verse "there'll be no world war three"

    This song is powerful.

  • Why does this masterpiece have such a small amount of views?
