May 14, 2010 - Just a little bit of the couple of hours of footage taken while flying for a day in the Region 9 soaring (glider) contest down in El Tiro, Arizona. It was fantastic fun, Garret was a great teacher and it was great to see dozens of gliders and pilots getting together to have a great time soaring for a week straight.

  • It was great to meet you! Another cool video!! Hope you post more of your flight. I'm thinking about getting a GoPro HD or VholdR ContourHD 1080p. Any thoughts on what is better? Dawg. Std Cirrus YR

  • @skydawg98 Hey Dawg - Fun to meet you too. You have a lovely plane. Make sure you fly her a lot! :) I don't know either of these systems but there seems to be more buzz around the ContourHD. Make sure to post any videos you make. :) Bruno

  • What vid camera did you use Bruno?

Excellent footage from a hand held!

  • @RS15zero Thanks. A Canon Vixia HF M30 with a Canon wide angle lense (very important!!!) I plan on using this as my new main cam over the shoulder mounted this season. I then will use a Kodak ZI-8 with a glued on wide angle lens as the hand held and/or external mounted cam. I was please with the results so far. You always wish you got less camera shake but that's life. Bruno

  • Awesome video mate, AS USUAL!

So, how good is this beauty at gliding? And what happens to the prop? Is it somehow folding for reduced drag?

  • @xratzix Thanks for the comments. It was a very fun day and I learned a ton. Garret flew the first leg of the task and then I flew the rest with his coaching. He is headed off to the World Gliding Championships in a month or so to represent the USA in open class so I greatly respect his insights he gave to improve my own soaring. I am planning on making a video showing some of the thermalling techniques he showed me. Much easier than what I was doing before! Prop folds away into the nose.

  • @obaidCarkey its a self-launching glider, a glider that makes the use of an engine to get airbourne.

  • this things has an engine/propellor right?

why is it called a glider?

  • @skydawg98 the GoPro is a fantastic camera. The ContourHD is a good option as well, but I'd recommend the GoPro, just for versatility.

Fantastic vids @bviv! You've pretty much inspired me to take up soaring.

  • STemme is so cool! I want one one day! And yeah, gliding lessons too! Where I come from , no gliding

  • What a great video - really enjoyed watching it - honestly. Especially the parking :) . I soooooooooo want an S-10!!!!

  • A good video, I love it!

  • Lovely video (as always Bruno). I am a paraplegic hoping to get back into soaring (I live in the right country - South Africa!), and your videos are giving me all the inspiration I need! Thank you. @thewritingwriterof89 the e is pronounced, "Stemmeh". A real dream machine!

  • Another great video Bruno. I really appreciate the "instruction" and look forward to the thermalling video. Still haven't found the right ASW 20B.
