Rare Audio Recording) Dwight Yoakam doing an amazingly gorgeous acoustic version of 'Carmelita'
Live at the Hammersteins Ballroom in 1994.

(If you've ever doubted Dwight's vocal
abilities, you MUST listen to this track!!)

Note: I did not make this recording,
so don't blame the quality on me, I
just share it regardless of quality!

  • From the description, I'm just curious: Has anyone ever questioned Dwight's vocal abilities? He's the king. Vocally as good as George Straight. Lyrically better than GS, considering GS doesn't write much. Dwight is a rare, top-notch talent, able to both write and perform music that pierces the soul.

Of course, my statements about writing are misplaced in this context since 'Carmelita' is a cover. You get my point though.

  • That's my fault probably, actually. Ever since I've been obsessed with Dwight, (since I was about 10) my sister hated country music, thought he was ugly, and couldn't stand his voice one bit. (She said he couldn't yodel when she heard his version of 'Cattle Call')

And yeah, your right about everything concerning Dwight, he's an amazing songwriter, singer, musician. It's just, from my very personal experience, some people don't see it that way AT ALL! :) I feel so bad for them!

  • What exactly does he sing at the end of the chorus? In the lyrics it says "on the outskirts of town" but here it sound more like "the outer skirts of town" or some like that. Can anyone help me out there? I'm not a native speaker in English here..

  • I'm pretty sure that the lyrics actually say on the outskirts of town, but in this version he might of misspoke and said the outer skirts of town.

  • @YoakamNotYoakum Yeah, I read the lyrics, too. Do you think it is mispronounced? Or maybe some stylistic element... sort of an artist kind of thing.

  • I think it might be....you know when he's live and doesn't have lyric book to read off then he's just kinda gotta go with the flow...no one will care if he misspeaks a bit!

  • He isn't speaking english, he's speaking hillbilly twang. Which makes allowance for distorted vowels and bended words.

  • @YoakamNotYoakum Yes he is floating the melody a bit different wich is a nice thing for another artist...

  • awesome tribute to warren zevon ..rip warren your legacy will remain forever

  • Ehh... GG Allin did this cover better, and it's definitely more believable.

  • About unpronounced ("mispronounced") lyrics....Dwight took a cue from Mick Jagger....who took HIS cue from Fats Domino. According to Mick; Fats Domino once said that: "You should never sing the lyrics very clearly. Sort of slur them on purpose. It makes people listen more closely to your songs; and gets them hooked on your Music". "Fats" was right. Mick "got it". Dwight followed through. As Keith Richards once said: "The best thing you could say about a musician is: "He passed it on."

  • @pat976 *license

  • @NickeyWhitfield It's called phrasing... He takes licence from the regular pronunciation of a word. You hear it all the time.

  • I've never seen him with a Rickenbacker guitar.....????

  • this is real country music....what happend to the real cowboys

  • Forget it .. Some body hollor at Billybob and his sling blade.

  • just not credible
