@Chessczar ...because, from C to E there are 4 semi-tones or half-steps: C-C#-D-D#-E but, from B to D there are only 3 semi-tones or half-steps: B-C-C#-D. This is because of the way our diatonic scale is designed: [Whole-step, Whole-step, Half-step, Whole-step, Whole-step, Whole-step, Half-step]. The traditional scale is NOT all whole-steps. It's a mix. Get it? Good luck!

Shawn love your videos. But I'm a little confused. You showed c-e as being a a third but then b-d as being a 3rd but there are 3 semitones between the 1st 2 notes and 2 semi tones between the 2nd pair. what about sharps and flats?

Hi Shawn, I'm turning 30 and I'm completely nonmusical and never learned an instrument in my life, but your videos have inspired me to take up piano. What kind of keyboard should I get? Should I get a cheap one to learn with then buy a good kind later, or do I need to start with a good one so I don't pick up any bad habits? Any particular brand you like? Thanks
