I got an HD-110! :D

The camera's capable of producing some truly beautiful images, but there are some quirks, especially when shooting in low light combined with low temperatures. This video is in the same vein of my Nikon D90 test video, simply showing you many things the camera can do, and highlighting the goods and bads.

One thing that truly enraged me before I bought the camera was the lack of any video showing me how wide and how tight the lens can zoom. There's plenty of both here in this video!

I hope this helps some people decide on a purchase, and if anyone has any questions, I will respond to any comments I can!

Shot with the JVC HD-110 with included Fujinon 16x5.5 zoom lens.

A quick note: In some scenes when I zoom out the image defocuses, this is due to me not setting up the backfocus correctly. I have since fixed this mistake and the problem is completely gone.

  • Who is the cute guy with you all the time? (I'm sorry about my english... I'm from Brazil)

    @LianaTami

  • @lianatami Your english is good! The guy with me all the time is my friend, and his name is Josh. I'll be sure to tell him someone thinks he's cute!

  • At the part where he's reading the street sign. Digital drop out. I hate that. Happens with all DV cameras. You might be too young to remember or even care. But in the days of analog video, there was still drop out. But it looked like very fine black lines that would sort of ghost through an image. But it would not totally screw up the image. I miss CERTAIN PARTS of the analog days, but not all :)

  • @hootyhaha I've loved video for a long time, and I certainly do remember. I love all the trappings and shortcomings of older formats, and frankly, digital dropouts are not only a lot harder to mask in post production, but they happen way too often for me to feel totally safe with the footage after a one-time shoot. I really want to pick up a hard drive to bypass the tape entirely, but I also really want to keep my $1,000. :P

  • While the footage does indeed look amazing, I am sure the price doesn't.

  • @zandronovo A1 is a consumer camera with single CMOS sensor. I know how crappy it is, because I have one. The 3CCD JVC is 100 times better than the A1, there's simply no comparision.

  • Beautiful, but I noticed alot of noise.

  • Good advice - do not zoom when recording. Only for artistic effects, but not all the time. )) Your video looks like monkey grab the camera and jumping and pushing all controls. ))

  • lol at 9:30! After seeing that reaction I had to google image what it looked like. I definitely thought you were using something along the lines of the Nikon D90 but wow was I wrong haha By the way, the people who criticize your filming in this are morons; clearly it says it's a test video -_- lol

  • Are you a short person?

  • @CaptainComedy Those hard drives scare me though with some of the hard drive crashes I've had in the past. My LACIE drive tipped over, not hard at all.. but it no longer works. It just clicks. And there were video files on there I really needed but they're GONE now. Passing through an airport screener? They're more powerful now to see through clothing so that means they've amped up some of the RAYS :) I don't trust hard drives around any of that if traveling.
