Basij means mobilization.
It's a paramilitary wing, operating under the command of IRGC ground forces.There are two military branches in Iran. One is the regular military (also known as "Artesh") and the other one is a private elite military branch (known as Sepah or IRGC). There are two big paramilitary forces. One is Basij and one is Ansar-e Hezbollah (the Iranian wing of Hezbollah). The members of these groups are often imported from Arab countries. I've heard some are Pakistanis as well.
