  • Aside from Arduino, are you also familiar with hooking this up to SunSPOTs?

  • @jzuidema

    Hi,

sorry but i have no Idea what SunSPOTs are...

  • @ixer2006 Ok I have another question. Are you familiar with the XBee API for JAVA?

I have this setup with a SunSPOT (similar to Arduino) connected to one Xbee pro, and another Xbee pro to my computer.

On the SunSPOT side, I output sensor values, through a UART output, to the Din Dout pins of the Xbee.

The problem is with receiving the message on the computer side, as the Xbee itself expects certain packet formats. Do you know the proper way to send this type of data over an Xbee network?

  • @jzuidema

    Hi,

sorry but i am not familiar with java or any xbee APis… so i can´t help you

Hope you will find a solution for it very soon…

    cu

  • Is it possible to connect multiple Xbee's , like 1 Xbee is set to like a server and others are like client? Thanks

  • @michy2007ph

    Hi,

yes thats possible, but for this you will need series 2 Modules. They are designed to work in a Network...

But unfortunatetly i can´t help you with the Setup, because i never needed to build up a Network. Sorry...

  • Do you know to use PIC microcontroller instead of arduino?

  • the chip on your breadboard is an ATmega328

  • Thank you so much, very helpful

  • @jzuidema The communication is ok, but when I read the packets received from the remote Xbee, the program includes API id, checksum etcetera. I ONLY want to send my data over the Xbee's, so that went I read the response on the computer side and print it, I only see my data, not the meta-data. I just cant figure out how to configure the Xbee's to just send over the data.

Now with the api I could configure the send packets the right way, but thats impossible on the SunSPOT..any ideas?

  • @ixer2006 ah ok, well SunSPOT are Sun Small Programmable Object Technologies, it is basically a small sensor board akin to the Arduino. I found out about the XCTU software and contacted a student who happened to have some experience in hooking them up..however your video(s) were still very helpful, thanks any way!

  • Thanks for your quick response.
