This footage is from the master tape entitled "Wildwood Boardwalk 1986" and provides an inside look at the Jungleland Dark Ride on Hunt's Pier in Wildwood New Jersey. Jungleland was demolished in 1989, but thanks to Mel Taylor aka John Jurgaitis who shot this amazing video we can experience Jungleland once again. Contributed to Funchase by MelTaylorMedia.com.

  • Cool mix dude.-Chucko

  • The Jungleland was removed early 1989 along with the Flyer coaster, train ride, mini hot rods (kiddie car ride on track) and the Pirate Ship Skua. After Bud Hunt sold Feb 1986 to investors the pier was doomed. The new owners didn't give a rats rear about preservation, they just wanted to make money and build newer rides like the Kamikaze coaster. With the failure of Dinosaur Beach Sept 1998, the pier became a go kart pier and storage/maintenance for the Morey's and Sightseer Tram Cars.

  • @rwk360 We vacationed every summer in Wildwood back in the 1970s. I loved the Whacky Shack! Always rode it every summer. I remember the first room that the car went into right after the load area had a small window that had reddish-pink colored glass/plastic in it which, during the day, gave the room a reddish tint. I vaguely recall this room having drawings of creepy family portraits on the wall, etc. Then the car would go through the first "bang doors" and into the dark.

  • I wish an on ride video of the Whacky Shack would surface. I didn't ride it for some reason, I was there between 1980 and 1983. I did ride Iron Horse Ghost Town RR, Jungleland, Keystone Kops, Golden Nugget, and Pirate Ship Skua. Whoever rode the Whacky Shack, what do you remember from the inside? There are a few photos of the interior on sites. There was a cuckoo clock, knit wit, sawmill, etc. there are color pics of those on laffinthedark at the dark rides of hunt's pier page by Anthony Canzano

  • What year did they get rid of this? I don't remember it sadly, I was a year old when this footage was taken

  • I don't recall ever riding this ride, but I do remember the Golden Nugget, the Whacky Shack, and Keystone Cops.

  • anybody have any vidio of the hellhole that was a good ride it spun then the floor fellout it was crazy thanks for the memorys

  • Just watching this made me smell that stale wet air smell of those rides. I miss those rides.

  • gads, i miss these...we used to go to wildwood at least a couple of times every summer. the last time i rode through, it looked nothing like the jersey shore...

  • Great vid! I totally remember going on this as a kid. It was a pretty nice ride, however, those animatronic "native" characters were a tad bit racist by today's standards.
