trying to teach 7month old Pumpkin to get up on the stick

its been 31 days since i got him

..it might seem like nothing but let me add that he is afraid of everything so its a big improvement for him
(he was so scared of the stick b4 he would fly away when it was near him)
..oh n he was sitting on the stick longer b4 ...and i didint get to record dat =(

ps. he was a parented bird thats y im saying its an improvement (not use to being around humans)

TIP:
- i kept getting him to come closer to the stick (that was 1st laying on the table)till he put his foot on it
- i was teasing him with food so every step he took closer i gave him food
-then i used the clicker (one of those pens that makes a click noise when u press on it) when he touched it with his foot and rewarded him with food again
- i kept repeating this process till he got comfortable
- then i raised the stick a little bit and repeated the previous steps

***he understood that if he goes on it he will be rewarded with his favourite food***

  • Hi!, Nice vids!

I got a handfed tiel which is about 9 weeks old, at what age do you think I can start clicker training and teaching him/her to come to on command?

  • @BowlC300 i would wait till hes 12 weeks old

  • How did you get it outside of its cage, cos mine will not even try to come out, its about 6 months old and ive had it for about a month

  • @dejmago do a lot of trust exercises in the cage if u can ..also try to spend as much time with it and always play with it if u can , then slowly he will come out ..u might have problems putting back in the cage thoe ..just a warning

  • so you bought him when he was 6 months old? and you still managed to train him? wow, so if I buy a 3-4 months old cockatiel I can still train him, right?can you give me some suggestions?

  • @lordn3m3sis yeh u can start training from 12 weeks
