The mechanic says he can't hear this. It stops when you turn the fan off on the heating/ac console. What is wrong with my car? Someone tell me what is making this noise. This is an 02 year.

  • Still doing it after four years.

  • Its coming from your AC compressor. I have the same car and same year. Its been doing it for about a year now. Everything works fine, just gets annoying when your at a light or at a drive thru.

  • @miamicanesfan01 So I gather there's no easy fix?

  • The dealer's mechanic is always deaf when it is a warranty repair.

  • i am a mechanic and i am more than sure that is the accessory fan for the a/c hitting the shroud. easy fix

  • @shishendu How do you fix it? After four summers of this, shouldn't some damage have been done to something?

  • my 92 proteges compressor did that.

  • I have a 1996 Ford aspire and a 2002 Mazda protege they both do it it is the a/c compressor its just a bunch of noise my aspire has the same thing for about 9 years if the a/c still blows cold it'll just be annoying

  • It's the ac fan.

  • @MarianeJorgenson im just an amateur mechanic if you can even call me that lol, without seeing it in person its hard to tell, sounds like maybe your vent blower inside the car is loose and rubbing on something around it, ive never messed with one so im not 100% sure but id assume you have to take apart the dash to get to it, its not as hard as it sounds usually they just have little tabs that hold them in place and you just have to pull gently to pop em loose, thats where i would start anyways

  • The fan is quite probably hitting something, either the shroud or something that might be caught in it. Make sure the battery is disconnected and reach you hand in there. Spin the fan around and see if it binds (gets held up) at any point of its revolution. If you can't find it that way, tell your tech to take a look. Oh, and I recommend you find a new tech.

  • if it is the compressor the noise should stop when you hit the green a/c button to off no matter if the fan speed is 1 2 3 or 4. if its ur compressor.. good luck. you need special certification beyond ASE to handle the a/c unit because of freons effect on the environment so its most likely a nasty trip to a real mechanic. however, if it is just the blower motor then you can probably replace in a few hours. you know its the blower motor if you can hear the noise in one or any fan speed

  • your mechanic is bad.
