@pippinfett It's called banter

@pippinfett You answered your own question.

I don't get why he calls her Mrs. Hottentot. Hottentot was a derogatory term the Europeans gave to the Khoikhoi!
-
@Mozart1220 but yeah...this is still the greatest show ever. it was deep, fast-paced, thoughtful, dramatic, and funny...for 4 seasons...although even in season 7 when they were forcing all sorts of awful contradictions and character developments it was still a unique show in its own right.

@Mozart1220 Remember when Toby trolls on Santos because he thought Santos left Congress and deserted his duty. Toby thought Santos was doomed to lose because Santos lacked a personal fervor to become president as Josh had to drag him back into the political arena. But Toby forgets Jed also wasn't fueled by a strong personal desire to lead his country since Leo had to persuade the then governor! The post-sorkin writers really ruined character development for all the major characters...

@Mozart1220 good point about wanting everything instantly... it's just like sports...we don't have any patience that's why most americans can't put up with soccer! I like how Bartlett worked with both Ainsley and the guy who is a private doctor now on that other show (lol) even though he clearly disagreed with both of them. It's a shame the post-Sorkin writers didn't coordinate the character development because Toby contradicts himself when arguing against Santos.

@adamobarca Judging a presidential candidate by his hight is OUR failing, not the candidate. I'd rather have a logical midget with a mole on his nose that a 6 foot handsome man whith no brain or vision. We Americans obsess on the superficial (not to mention we need instant everything) and blow off what is important. I like the idea that Bartlett "likes smart people that disagree with him" (Ainsley Haise). Remember, the episode in question is "post Sorkin". Still the best show ever!
-
@Mozart1220 lol if we're going by that logic then dreaming of a fictional tv president in bartlett being president of a country (as u mentioned) is stupid too. i hear a lot of people saying bartlett this bartlett that...but come on now, would he actually be a good real life president? i meant by my 5'5 comment that if he were to debate against, say, mitt romney at 6'2, it would look bad for jed! image is a big thing these days that's why nixon lost to kennedy and it hurt mccain too. good day!
-
@adamobarca Well, it's a TV show, but a man's hight is a stupid reason to judge character or leadership. Besides, Bartlett got the deal made didn't he? ALL presidents disagree with their advisors sometimes.
-
@Mozart1220 yeah. i didn't like bartlett's decision. it was the wrong one. toby and leo were more passionate characters as well. jed bartlett was too fantastical and improbable. it was a huge turnoff. most of all, his arrogance...i'd vote for vinick or santos over him for sure. look carefully at some of the episodes where he disagrees with his staff members. most of the time, he's very irrational and stubborn. he wouldn't be taken seriously at 5'5 either, lol. that's why leo had to be only 5'4.
Every time we come to Southern California, we are absolutely the Clampetts!
Thats probably one of the funniest lines Ive ever heard from the West Wing. I laugh every time I hear it.
