  • I'm sad to report that this owl was found dead a few weeks ago near where these videos were taken. It appears to have starved. We are sad....

  • what is he doing? XD

  • Bob,

That seems to be the question of the day. Noone knows. We can only guess that he may smell mice inside or is just playing? Thanks for looking!

  • Congratulations to you on these great captures. What a thrill.

In this clip, what's he trying to open? A bag of rats?

  • JJL,

Many have asked the same question. Either its a toy to him or he smells mice inside. It was observed doing this almost everytime it landed on one of several burlap-covered trees. Thanks for the kind words and for looking!

  • @jourdaj I hate it when something like this creature has to die DX

  • Baby Owl... wow amazing i want adopt 2 like him , maybe if this desire gonna be real? maybe i begin to love winter too !!!!

  • If anything She might have HEARD critters inside of that gunny sack which looks like it was filled with straw. Or she could have been so desparate that she was seeing if it was something edible, since some gunny sacks are rather fur like, especially the old style ones.

  • Snowy Owls feed almost exclusively on lemmings in the far north and some hares. Driven Southward by extreme weather in the North, they are rather lost in unfamiliar territory and look for whatever food they can find. I believe this bird was a female because of its size and markings. Someone could have left some live food for her. It's a shame she perished.

  • omg the ORLY owl

  • nooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooo it can't die it is a cool bird

  • i know the snowy owls rule but i do not get the video at all but nice bird and it died *cries his lungs out*

  • i love this bird

  • There are large breeding colonies in Northern Scotland so snowies are only endangered because there aren't enough boy snowies for all the ladies there.

Plus global temperatures are cyclical. The temperature 2000 years ago in Southern England was warm enough to allow thriving viticulture (now found only south of Paris), whereas now you are lucky to get more than a few days of sunshine at best even in July and August.

  • Magnificent creatures.
