This si the most recent view of my interior. SLF's seems simpler and better . My console is more manual and requires a little more effort to not screw up with the mods I've made but I'm adding to an existing system rather starting with a better switch than starting

  • I heard that Frybrid kits are the best is this true. The prices on there items super high though. i am thinking of buying a plantdrive. what would u recommend

  • FryBrid is arguably the best, at least it was when I was installing the kit. I found Frybrid's customer service lacking (to put it nicely). The best system is a combination of parts. I think later I added a Frybrid heater (It replaced the Racor with the coolant wrapper).

Plantdrive answered my emails and was happy to help with questions I had.

I think one should use additional electric heat - like a Vegtherm & injection line heaters and maybe use Frybrids coolant based solutions.

  • How do you mount the switches in the dash? Do you have to remove the dashboard? thanks

  • yes you have to remove the lower dash section and the radio. The radio requires a special removal tool (blades to engage the spring clips), you can get one or ebay or a local car radio store. The wires also have to go through the fire wall and run to the location desired. The dash removal is not that hard once the radio comes out. It was a total of 4 pieces + the radio. torx tool required

As for the mounting, the locations were unused dashboard slugs that I simply cut oout or drill through

  • Great demo. I've seen someone else connect their veggie tank fuel guage to the dashboard diesel guage. He did it to keep the number of changes to the inside. But also, the dashboard guage comes from the computer - so the anti-splash algorithm came for free. Is this the case with yours? When he switched from Diesel to Veg the guage would read from the VegTank. Fun to watch the fuel level change slowly.

  • Thanks, in the Plantdrive kit I bought, the OEM fuel tank is used to hold the VO, the gauge in the dash only reads the VO level. The diesel is in a small 4.5 gallon "doughnut" tank that resides inside the spare tire.

This maintains the spare and full size trunk. I have no gauge for the diesel but I know from my driving habits when to refill the diesel tank. If the TDI will not start on the first try it indicates that there is apprx. 1 1/2G left in the diesel tank and that i should refuel soon.
