If Penderecki wanted to make the great "universal chanticle", he had to use universal topics, even Hollywood markings. I don't think it's kitschy for that. Beethoven and Mozart used popular topics for their purposes. I think we don't have to go to the extremes to enjoy music perception. I don't think the future of music is its excesive intellectualization or its excesive elitism
thanks for the upload but i do agree that this is especially kitschy for Penderecki given that he usually employs a more diverse timbral pallette and his usual gamut of textures is largely absent in favour of these awkwardly placed major-key explosions.

Agreed. It's not what you'd expect from Penderecki. I am guessing he wanted it to have a more universal or popular appeal in light of its dedication.

This sounds nothing like the Great Gate of Kiev... Mussogorsky only composed it for piano - Ravel orchestrated it...
