Advertisements target everyone's insecurities, no matter what gender.

You think feminists aren't upset by the fact that men are constantly portrayed as horny bastards always after a piece of meat? Or how girls are told to avoid getting raped by doing particular things, like not wearing a 'sexy' outfit, because men 'can't control themselves?' I'm a feminist and I'm very upset by these things, but you guys need to stop thinking that male problems are required to be put on a video about women. It's not always about you.

How is that feminist bullshit? Yes, advertising does target men, for example, there was a Brut add that basically said men who weren't stereotypically 'masculine' enough needed to be slapped. I discovered that ad because a FEMINIST blog I follow was disgusted by its repression of and violence against men. But women are still exploited more especially with regard to beauty products, and not including your gender in a discussion about WOMEN does not invalidate her argument.

all ads have ever done is piss me off, they take up valuable space and money that would be better spent on more enriching content. the fucking corporations and the white male christians that control them as well as most of the world are to blame, the people need to rise up and realize the bullshit they have been put through, but hey are all too fucking stupid to because of all the television they watch.

Global ‘democratic’ governments MUST act for th people, NOT corporations & affiliate industries. Regulation, standards & other measures of decency & quality have been discarded, in strangely convoluted ways. Whilst these companies enjoy much freedom, ours is in fact diminishing. We often have no effective right to redress when these companies and policies degrade our collective future. They reduce costs yet we pay more, for less. Labelling on products, advertising etc; NONE 'self approved'

so is Jean a victim of all this evil man dominance... or is she another exception to the rule?

All you men who feel attacked by women who do not want be objects prove the point that you do not want women to be strong. dont complain that women want to change the way we are treated. help your mothers and daughters and sisters get to a point where we are not objects and toys. How can you look at someone you love and say to them you deserve no more.

She makes a good argument, but she does need to talk about how the ads hurt men too. She touched on it a little bit, but she needs to do more.

How can anyone with a straight face say that advertisers don't target men's insecurities about their penis size and/or performance in bed? The speaker fails to address the huge advertisement industry related to sexual enhancement drugs, i.e. Viagra, Cialis, etc.. Polemic feminist bullshit.
I saw this movie twice in college, and they make a really good argument here. I would recommend this movie to everyone I know. They will never look at ads the same way again! I know I didn't!
