Cross spiders belong to the group of Orb Spiders because of the large orb webs that they spin which can be up to one metre in diameter. A new web is spun every morning. The webs are built by the larger females who usually lie head down on the web. This morning she is waiting for prey to get entangled in the web. The prey is then quickly captured and wrapped in silk before being eaten.
Individual spiders' colouring can range from extremely light yellow to very dark gray, but all European garden spiders have mottled markings across the back with five or more large white dots forming a cross. They are common spiders found in gardens.

  • Interesting video.

  • Good video! Beautiful Spider! ;-)

  • That is a wonderful footage. You have been extremely lucky with the light - it's amazing to see all the silk-threads, especially while catching and wrapping the prey! I would have loved to see the entire footage when she is in the center of the web, looking for the right direction of the prey. That part is highly interesting in my opinion :)

    Thanks again. Great work!
