Brief review of the Troy BUIS (backup iron sights) battle sight system on my AR15 carbine, followed by target shooting at 100 and 200 yards. Shooting segments include PIP; second camera at the target to provide picture-in-picture perspective.

The rifle is a combination Bushmaster lower receiver and Rock River Arms upper with a 16" barrel. Typically, I use an EoTech and co-witness with the BUIS, but that product is currently out of commission. I purchased this set of Troy sights from a local gun shop, approx. $220 U.S. retail.

Ammo used for target shooting is manufactured by Georgia Arms, .223 Remington, 55 gr FMJ. I have shot a ton of this ammo over the years, mainly with the Bushmaster Varminter, and find it to be reasonably accurate.

Targets are 18" x 30", 3/8" thick, 500 Brinell steel, and mfg. by Mike Gibson Targets in Idaho.

  • Does the rear sight, when folded down, get in the way at all of grasping the charging handle?

  • @myantispambox

    No, not at all.

  • How do you measure the distance between you and the target?

  • @WarIsNeverPretty

    Leupold laser rangefinder.

  • Taking the eotech off and on I don't think will effect zero for your iron sights. What happened to the Eotech?

  • @semiautoriflelover

I moved the front post to a large degree, at 200 yds, should make enough difference to miss. There is a small reflective piece of plastic in the EoTech....the laser passes through it and is shown on the glass....that small piece got loose from its mount and fell off. The reflective coating on that piece has also worn off....which is incredible. All I see for a red dot is a large red cloud.

Good point on the audio of "lead shavings" from these high-velocity hits. I collect the remnants when possible and send to Chuck Norris, as he eats them with his cereal.

  • i got here by typing: ther disdrgzhf buisg

  • @Nater245689 Oh, and any gas block needs to be pinned in place.

  • @PotatoGunsRule If you already have a fixed front sight, there is no reason at all to get folding BUIS. If you want Tritium, then get Trijicon inserts for the stock AR sights. If you simply must have folding BUIS, then get a free float rail and mount the front sight to that. The only gas blocks that are 100% fool proof are the standard fixed front sight gas block, the Daniel Defense low profile, and the Knight's Armament low profile.

  • @tnoutdoors9 does the reas sight have to ba all the way back or can i move it foward??

  • Could be the camera view, but looks like the front rail is not on plane with rear? Maybe why you have to adjust the post up so much?

    I enjoy your videos thanks!

  • why didn't you get the gas block sight option?

  • It's cool to see this guy miss the targets, and see the trees and branches move around in the background.

  • Can anyone help me? I have the S&W in 5.45 and want to put Troy tritium sights (folding) on it. what sort of gas block do I need? suggest one if you like. thanks!
