Our Lady of Mount Carmel

Carmelites gather for their annual celebration of Our Lady of Mount Carmel in New York City. The crowd is diverse, but Haitian-American parishioners outnumber the Italians who as immigrants, established the parish on 115th Street in the 19th century.

After mass, attendees join the procession that begins outside church doors. Catholic priests and congregants walk through their East Harlem neighborhood receiving onlookers' best wishes. Creole songs, strains of "Ave Maria" and band music interrupt the otherwise quiet afternoon.

The statue of Our Lady of Mount Carmel is linked to the Haitian spirit of feminine love.
In Carmelite tradition, the Blessed Virgin Mary gave the scapular to St. Simon Stock on July 16 in 1251. She is one of three images of the Virgin Mary recognized by pontifical authority.

You obviously don't understand Catholicism. Mary isn't "dead" by the way. Mary is there to bring us to Jesus. She told us to pray the rosary. Do you know how to pray the rosary? It's about Jesus' life and meditating on it. Mary is always holding Jesus, or he's in her womb, or the image may be of her alone because in the event that the particular image is from he was alone ex. Fatima. It actually is in the Bible to ask for prayers from ANYONE

...Jesus told his followers to love her as their own mother. We don't believe the scriptures from the Bible is solely it but miracles still happen today bringing us messages from our Lord and his desires. The Catholic church, the Church our Lord founded by the way, put the Bible together.

You are so right. The Catholic Church is not about Jesus. It is about rituals that Jesus would never recognize or allow.

Jesus would kick down the walls of the Vatican and throw out the whole corrupted lot, including the Pope.

How many popes had illegitimate children? Murdered their enemies?  Silenced democracy? Sold sins to raise money for art and luxury?

You are {exposing} your ignorance and bias towards your brothers and sisters in the Lord that happen to be Catholic. Do you feel the same towards Pentacostals that believe when a Christian speaks in tongues...then they are fully baptised, but not until then. Now, I don't share this belief...that does not necessarily make a heretic. There is no shortage of problems with the Church I'm certain, be it Catholic, Orthodox, Baptist, Pentacostal, etc.

if the bible is not 100% the word of God then God would be a lier cause he said All Scripture is given by the inspiration of God and useful for reproof and correction of error (2 Timothy 3:16). Since Scripture is used to correct and reprove then it must be the authoritative standard by which everything else is judged for its truthfulness.
